It seems like lately, I catch myself thinking “Oh, I’ll be happier when I am at college and out of high school. or I will be a lot happier when I am married. or I will be happier when I get this big project done.” You get the point. It is so easy to blame our happiness on our circumstances. But the truth is our circumstances don’t determine our happiness. And they never will. It’s easy to think they will but really our happiness is really dependent on one thing: YOU.
You make the choice to be happy or not. Your circumstances don’t decide whether or not you can be happy or not. YOU do. Choose to let your thoughts be uplifting and positive and watch your world change. When you make an effort to not dwell on negative thoughts you see the world in a new light.
Happiness doesn’t come in a place, person, or thing. It comes with a change of perspective and mindset. It comes when you realize that you have a choice. A choice to be happy or not to be happy. That’s it. Nothing determines your happiness except YOU. Yes, somethings things happen and it’s hard to be happy but with a determined faith-filled mindset you can be happy. Because with the gospel there is always hope and always something to be grateful for.
