Hi my friends! It’s my TWO month mark today!!! That seems so quick yet so slow.
This week has been another great week! Nothing too exciting has happened. I took a group of Fundamentalists on tour at the Trail Center so that was interesting.. We helped a family move, gave out some Books of Mormon, visited so many less active/part member families. We still aren’t teaching anyone so we spend a lot of time finding and contacting old potentials. I am praying that we will find just ONE person to teach this week.
Also, I still think it is super funny that Heavenly Father knew how much I hated humidity and yet decided to send me to an very humid place. Haha. He really has a sense of humor.
Anyways, every day as I am taking tours in the Trail Center I am reminded how grateful I am for the pioneers and their sacrifice. They gave up so much all so that I could have the restored gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. They continued to”press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men.” (2 Nephi 31:20)
The first groups that crossed Iowa took nearly 4 whole months! That is how long they planned it would take them to get to the valley! It took them 4 months all because they hit a very early spring and a whole lot of mud. No matter how hard it was for them they pressed forward with that perfect brightness of hope because they loved God and they loved others. When they reached the Missouri River they realized they needed to stop for the winter. They settled here for a few years and were very successful. Because of those business they established they were able to help thousands of families immigrate to the Salt Lake Valley. I am sure as they were going through the mud in Iowa they were a little discouraged (okay a lot) but they kept trusting in the Lord and in His plan. The Lord knew they needed to be right there along the Missouri River so that they could help thousands of other people. We often just see the “mud” right in front of us but I know that Heavenly Father sees the bigger picture.
I know that as we press forward by doing the small and simple things (like reading your scriptures, saying your prayers, and attending church and temple) that you will blessed. He will help you through your challenges. Trust Him and believe in good things to come.
Y’all have a great week!! Thanks for sending emails and letters. They are THE best!!
This week was a super great week. We had exchanges this week (where you switch companions for a day) and I was with Sister Oswald. We had a blast. We got to go catch butterflies with Amy, who is paralyzed. She loves tagging butterflies so that they can track them in Mexico. But since she can’t do that we got to go help her. She was the sweetest person ever despite her struggles. I often ask myself if I would be as happy as she was if something like that happened to me. Happiness really is an inside job and true joy comes from living the gospel of Jesus Christ. She really proved that to me.
I have been studying a lot about the Spirit this week. In the MTC we watched a flim by Elder Bednar and he said the #1 question he gets asked is “Is it just me or is that the Spirit speaking to me?” I don’t know how many times throughout the talk that he said “It doesn’t matter. Stop worrying about it. If it is a good thought and you act on it you will be in the right spot for the Lord to lead your life.”
I have been trying to act on every good thought I have. I haven’t had any major good experiences but I can tell you that I feel and recognize the Spirit more in my life. Sister Jensen and I were talking about this and she said that someone told her once “If you aren’t obedient to the little promptings you get why would He bother giving you bigger more miraculous promptings?” And then she said something that really stuck with me, “We are so quick to follow all the commandments like paying tithing and the Word of Wisdom but do we realize that prompting from the Sprint are like our own personal commandments?”
I invite you to make it a goal to act on every good thought you have. I know that you will be blessed for doing so and that you will be an instrument in the Lord’s hand and see many miracles.
The Trail Center has hit its slow season, until Gingerbread season starts, so we spend lots of time on Teaching Center. We teach people from all over the world. We were asked to mention in our weekly emails that if you know of anyone I could call, text, or FB message, either to see if they would be interested in learning more or just to share a scripture with. So if you know of anyone or don’t know the people on your ministering list I would be more than happy to reach out to them. 🙂
For prep day today we went to the Omaha Zoo which apparently competes with San Diego for #1 zoo in the nation. Sister Ball and Judkins had extra tickets and invited us to come with them. It was nice to actually be outside for once!
Oh before I forget to explain the subject line…We meet a guy and started talking to him and when we told him we were missionaries he goes, “So you guys are Nuns?” UMMM NO. “Oh so you are training to be Nuns?” Nope Nope. Defiantly not. Cracked me up.
Keep sending me emails and pictures they always make my day!
I love you all!
Hello family and friends!
This week has been another SUPER busy week. Basically about 60% of our time is spent in the Trail Center, 20% studying, 10% in one of our areas, and 10% in the other area. We’ve had thunderstorms nearly every night and it is my favorite thing ever. The weather has been fabulous but the Trail Center is literally the coldest place on this planet and apparently Salt Lake controls it. It’s getting me real prepared for winter…
I was reading a talk called “Our Search for Happiness” by President Faust that was amazing!! I loved this quote from President Kimball that he quotes: “What is the price of happiness? One might be surprised at the simplicity of the answer. The treasure house of happiness is unlocked to those who live the gospel of Jesus Christ in its purity and simplicity.”
It says over and over in the Book of Mormon that if we will keep the commandments of God we will prosper. Mosiah 2:41 tells us to “consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God.”
Just like Lehi and his family were able to receive guidance and direction by being obedient to the commandments, we can do the same. If we are obedient we can receive that much needed guidance and direction for our lives. Obedience brings happiness and direction.
Not any super funny stories to share but we spend our down time at the Trail Center on the online Teaching/Referral Center. I love it because you never know who will answer the phone or if they will hang up on you haha. Anyways, we got told that “Jesus is a cool guy,” that we live like the Amish people, and about everything else you could imagine. It’s a blast. I need to start writing down all the funny things people say so I can actually remember them and share them. People crack me up.
Thank you all so much for your emails and pictures throughout the week. They made my day. Keep sending them!!
Love and pray for you all,
Also, I highly encourage you to read your patriarchal blessing today if you haven’t in awhile. Keep living worthy of the promised blessings!!
