Monday Pep Talk: When You Need a Reason to Keep the Commandments

Posted in Monday Pep Talks

Happy Monday! Today’s pep talk is shorter and to the point and not what you voted on but I felt like I needed to share this short message this week.

If you ever feel like there is no use in keeping the commandment, which we all do sometimes, keep reading.

I could give you hundreds of reasons of why keeping the commandments is important, with the main one being because we love our Savior, but you don’t want to read a list of things  you already know. So I am just going to suggest one thing: if you are struggling to find a reason to keep the commandments (or just one) go and read your patriarchal blessing. (If you don’t have your patriarchal blessing maybe you should think and pray about getting it.)

The reason I am suggesting to read your patriarchal blessing is because it tells us the blessings we WILL receive if we do our part and keep the commandments. When you read your patriarchal blessing (or at least when I read mine) I want to be a better person and try harder to keep the commandments because I want to become the person Heavenly Father wants and needs me to become. So try it. Next time you are having hard time trying to keep the commandments just take a couple of minutes and go read it.

xoxo

Monday Pep Talk: Lessons from a Sunflower

Posted in Monday Pep Talks

I was recently reminded of a talk about given by Elder Quentin L. Cook in April of 2015 about sunflowers and I found it very interesting and wanted to share a part of it. (You can read the whole talk here)

One of the remarkable characteristics of young wild sunflowers, in addition to growing in soil that is not hospitable, is how the young flower bud follows the sun across the sky. In doing so, it receives life-sustaining energy before bursting forth in its glorious yellow color.

Like the young sunflower, when we follow the Savior of the world, the Son of God, we flourish and become glorious despite the many terrible circumstances that surround us. He truly is our light and life.  Quentin L. Cook

Sunflowers don’t grow in perfect soil in fact they grow in pretty tough conditions, but they survive by following the sun constantly.  We might come from far from perfect or tough conditions, but if we follow the Son we will be able to “flourish and become glorious.” And what a great promise that is.

CHALLENGE: Be like sunflowers! Seek the Son. Follow the Son.

xoxo

Monday Pep Talk: Tender Mercies

Posted in Monday Pep Talks

“Before I would write, I would ponder this question: “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?” As I kept at it, something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done.

More than gratitude began to grow in my heart. Testimony grew. I became ever more certain that our Heavenly Father hears and answers prayers. I felt more gratitude for the softening and refining that come because of the Atonement of the Savior Jesus Christ. And I grew more confident that the Holy Ghost can bring all things to our remembrance—even things we did not notice or pay attention to when they happened.” Henry B Erying

I started doing this a couple years ago but with my own twist. I would write down my favorite thing that had happened that day or just something that I was especially grateful for that day. I usually wrote 2 or 3 things but as did that and took time each day to reflect on the day I realized just how many tender mercies there really was each day.

What if I didn’t do that? I would go to sleep without taking time to see the small but significant ways that Heavenly Father had blessed me. Because often we don’t recognize tender mercies when they are happening because a lot of the time they are simple everyday things that are hard to recognize in the moment; we usually find them when we are looking back on our day. (At least for me)

I have a notebook that I started in June of 2014. (I will put a picture of it on Instagram Stories later today.) But looking back it was one of the best things I have ever done. All you need is a notebook and a pen or pencil and 2 or 3 minutes each night. It has seriously made the biggest difference in my life and I really encourage you to try it.

Tender mercies are REAL. Take the time to notice them because they ARE real and help you understand how Heavenly Father really knows you and what you need.

Happy Monday!

CHALLENGE: Get a notebook and take 2 or 3 minutes every single night this week to write down 2 or 3 of your favorite things that happened that day and when you are reflecting on your day you will find tender mercies that happened throughout the day and write those down too! If you are having a hard time take 30 seconds and say a prayer to be able to notice them and I promise you that you will. ?

Monday Pep Talk: As a Follower of Christ

Posted in Monday Pep Talks

as a follower of Christ we are taking upon His name. we are promising that we will do what He would do. we are representatives of Him. we are lights because He is the light.

people should see Christ through us. and not only that but they should want to know Christ because they know us. they should see someone who’s confident in Christ and is confident is His ability to change our lives.

“When you choose to follow Christ, you choose to be changed.” -Ezra Taft Benson

as a follower of Christ we are promising to treat others how we want to be treated. we are willing to stand out and be different from the world. we are willing to do what it takes to not only believe in Him but KNOW Him. we love Him. what are you willing to do or change to follow Christ?

CHALLENGE: before you do anything today ask yourself, “would Christ do this?” (this includes talking…;)

happy monday! don’t forget to go vote for next week’s topic on instagram!

Monday Pep Talk: Be a Light.

Posted in Monday Pep Talks

sometimes (okay, pretty much all the time) when I watch the news it’s hard not to get depressed and worried about the world we all live in. BUT, it’s important to remember that most of the time all you see on the news is negative. they don’t tell about all of the wonderful things going on in the world.

we need to decide what kind of person we want to be. we need to decide wether or not we will stand out and be a light or if we just want to blend in with all of the “dark.”

since your reading this I am guessing that you are choosing to be a light. i am guessing that you are making the choice to be a light. to be a beacon of hope. to be hope. i wish everyone would make it their job everyday to shine and only put goodness out there.

everything we do impacts others. let your actions impact others for the better. let them lift others. let your actions inspire others to be a light too.

“l e t  y o u r  l i g h t  s o  s h i n e

before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” matthew 5:16

CHALLENGE: be a light. smile. be happy. choose goodness. be grateful.

Monday Pep Talk: Embrace Change

Posted in Monday Pep Talks

My definition of CHANGE: an opportunity, that sometimes is hard but well worth it, to grow and become the person God wants us to become.

Now I want you to think of your definition of change.  No, seriously look away from this post and think about it. Then come back here.

Your definition might be, “scary, hard, horrible.” or it might be “hard but worth it.”  But let me say this: Your definition of that word will influence how you see and react to change.

But I am here to tell you that if you change (there it is again..)  your mindset to see change in a good, positive way it will be okay. It will all be okay. Say it with me: It will all be OKAY.

Sometimes change is required to become who God wants us to become. It’s just part of being a diamond in rough. Just think of what a better person you will be because of it.

I know that it can be hard to move or go to a new school or change anything in general but YOU CAN DO IT! And you will be a better person because of it. So EMBRACE it.

happy Monday!
